FBI Questions Pro-Life Advocate

A prominent pro-life advocate’s son-in-law received a surprise visit from the Obama administration last week — one that a legal group says should be a cause of concern for anyone who works to protect preborn children.
On July 13, Andy Moore of Texas answered a knock at his door to find two FBI agents standing on his porch. Moore is the son-in-law of Jill Stanek, one of the country’s most outspoken pro-life bloggers.
According to Stanek’s blog, the agents then quizzed him extensively about his personal life — including church groups he belongs to, his belief system, how long he’s known his wife and his connection to Stanek. They also encouraged him to feel free to tell them anything about fellow pro-life advocates he thought they should know, and mentioned that a felony conviction could get him deported.
Afterward, Moore contacted the Life Legal Defense Foundation (LLDF) for advice.
“It sounds like they’re setting him up for some kind of FACE violation, aside from the fact that they seem to be monitoring what he and Jill are doing,” said Executive Director Dana Cody, referencing the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances law. “It’s very intimidating to say the least. And very chilling for people who go out on the sidewalk to counsel. So we’ve advised Andy to not talk to them again without counsel present. Basically, unless there’s videotape, it becomes a he said/she said (situation), and law enforcement is going to side with the clinic. They typically do.”
All sidewalk counselors and other advocates should “definitely videotape” their activities outside abortion centers.
