In a victory for the rule of law and a strict adherence to the Constitution, the U.S. Senate has rejected the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Goodwin Liu to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
As detailed in our memo here, Professor Liu has a record that is clearly hostile to a literal interpretation of the Constitution and open to incorporation of foreign law in judicial rulings. Combined with his extremely thin legal experience, it was clear that he was unfit for the appeals court, despite being twice nominated to the post by President Obama. In the final tally, the Senate’s vote of 52-43, with one Senator voting present and another four Senators absent, was well short of the 60 votes needed to move the nominee forward. If research industries know that the legislature will cut off their funding if they report that they are doing human cloning and human embryonic stem cell research, Missouri Right to Life does not believe that any report will be accurate. Therefore Missouri Right to Life continues to oppose MOSIRA on HB 116, SB 100 and any other bill without the protective language of 196.1127. Liz Engel was a health care policy advisor for Democrats in the U.S. Senate before joining the Obama administration after the 2008 election to work with one-time HHS Secretary nominee Tom Daschle. Once Obama took over the White House, Obama named Engel his deputy assistant secretary for legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services — where she undoubtedly played a key role in shaping and helping to pass in Congress the Obamacare bill that pro-life organizations opposed because of loopholes allowing abortion funding and rationing concerns. The Columbia Planned Parenthood represents one of only two abortion clinics here in Missouri, so the need for prayers and action as they attempt to resume this deadly practice is critical.
40 Days for Life of Columbia is asking all pro-lifers to please check your calendars, call your friends, bring your children and come to pray on the sidewalk this Thursday, May 26 anytime after 1:00pm. They expect to be there until 7:30 pm or later. As many as 15 women are expected to show up for abortions during this time. The other bad news is that this new doctor will abort babies up to 13 weeks. This means surgical abortions, which have not been committed here since last summer. God has been listening to our prayers and we are praying for another miracle. We pray for the conversion of this doctor who will become an abortionist on May 26. Planned Parenthood in Columbia is located at 711 N Providence Road. If you are able to come on Thursday, please send an email with 'count me in' in the subject line to [email protected] Of course, there can never be too many prayer supporters, so if you can not make it, please take a few minutes out of your Thursday afternoon to pause and pray for these women, children and especially for the abortionist! The votes may be over, but it is an issue that will continue to generate controversy and attention. The House voted 241-185 to stop federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the world's largest abortion provider.
Unfortunately, the legislation was voted down in the Senate. With a vote of 58-42, the Senate agreed to allow the federal funding to proceed - despite the fact that roughly two out of three Americans disapprove of taxpayer funding for abortion. It’s a vote that many U.S. Senators will have to answer for. A vote to allow more than $350 million in taxpayer funds to flow to Planned Parenthood - the largest abortion provider in the world. In total, there are 58 Senators (including five Republicans) who voted to support Planned Parenthood, and you can view the entire vote list here. Tim Jones in the House and President Pro-Tem Sen. Robert Mayer in the Senate. These bills would prohibit abortion on unborn children after 20 weeks gestation, a point at which an unborn child is fully capable of feeling pain. The bills passed both the House and the Senate with bipartisan support.
“Missouri Right to Life applauds the Missouri House and Senate for their passage of HB 213 and SB 65. Medical technology continues to improve the ability of a child born prematurely to live outside the mother’s womb. This legislation bans abortions after 20 weeks, a time at which more and more children are beginning to survive outside the womb. With advances in medical technology, children born prematurely are viable at increasingly earlier stages of development,” said Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life. Komen’s own figures show 20 of Komen’s 122 affiliates have made donations to Planned Parenthood and, last year, those con- tributions totaled $731,303. Komen spokesman John Hammarley also confirmed Komen affiliates contributed about $3.3 million to the abortion business from 2004-2009. It appears that the local chapters in Missouri of the Susan G. Komen Foundation do not contribute directly to Planned Parent- hood or other abortion advocacy organizations, but a minimum of 25% of the net income from each domestic affiliate race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program. Until the Susan G. Komen Foundation renounces its support of Planned Parenthood and any other pro-abortion advocacy organizations, Missouri Right to Life considers it to be anti-life in actuality. We urge citizens to consider carefully whether to support the Race for the Cure and other activities of the Susan G. Komen Foundation in light of the Foundation’s anti-life activities. (read more) |
