Billboard firm blocks pro-life group's latest ads linking candidate with abortion funding10/21/2012
A billboard company has blocked a national pro-life group's latest effort to post ads linking a congressional candidate to abortion funding – in the wake of a similar 2010 effort that resulted in a defamation lawsuit.
The Susan B. Anthony List ads argue Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., supports taxpayer-funded abortions because he voted in favor of President Obama’s health care overhaul legislation. The group calls Driehaus' suit “frivolous,” and it argues Lamar Advertising's recent decision not to run the anti-Donnelly ads on its billboards raises First Amendment questions. “This continued assault on our free speech hits at the basic freedoms groups and individuals in this country enjoy, to criticize their elected officials and to demand better representation,” said group President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Under ObamaCare, taxpayers are forced to fund abortion. Yet despite this growing consensus, the free speech of the SBA List continues to be chilled.” (read full article) New calls from the staff of National Review to Planned Parenthood abortion centers provide further confirmation that President Barack Obama misled voters during Tuesday night’s debate because Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms.
“There are millions of women all across the country who rely on Planned Parenthood for mammograms, for cervical cancer screenings,” Obama claimed during the debate. Ample evidence already confirms Planned Parenthood doesn’t actually perform mammogramms — it merely refers women for them to legitimate medical centers that do — but National Review made new calls to clinics to confirm it. Planned Parenthood itself has admitted that it does not perform mammograms for women — something the Komen for the Cure breast cancer charity confirmed last year. LifeNews.com and pro-life blogger Jill Stanek followed up with phone calls to various Planned Parenthood centers and confirmed they do not do mammograms. Then, the organization Live Action released videotaped footage of calls to 30 Planned Parenthood centers nationwide in 27 different states where abortion facility staff were asked whether or not mammograms could be performed on site. Every one of the Planned Parenthood centers admitted they could NOT do mammograms. Obama said on Friday that his administration has no plans to get rid of the controversial HHS mandate and that the mandate was one of the reasons for approving Obamacare in the first place. According to a CNS report: Then, in an apparent jab at Catholic institutions and others who have asked him to rescind the regulation and who have sued arguing that it violates their First Amendment right to free-exercise of religion, Obama specifically pointed to the fact that the preventive services regulation mandates free contraception for female college students as one of the reasons “why we passed this law.” “And we are going to keep it,” he said defiantly. And that means that since 40 Days for Life began as a coordinated campaign five years ago, there have now been, through God’s grace,MORE THAN 6,000 LIVES SAVED! (link to national site for updates) (link to blog for St. Louis area) The 40 Days for Life was first founded on three very important principals: Prayer & Fasting, Peaceful Vigil, and Grassroots Community Outreach…
… And since our beginnings in 2009 we have stayed true to our commitment of peacefully praying for an END to Abortion while asking our volunteers to abide by the statement of peace. Over the last few months, however, something has changed in the St. Louis city government or police force. Planned Parenthood has become increasingly aware of our effectiveness and has dramatically increased their calls to city officials and police accusing our volunteers of anything from False Advertising to Littering. The normal procedure is that several police will arrive, tell us we can’t stand here or there, or we can’t have this kind of sign or that kind of sign and then leave after a little while. Well yesterday was a little different. Rita Sparrow (69) from St. Charles who walks with a limp arrived early with a chair because she had planned to stay for many hours to pray. Shortly after the police arrived asking Mrs. Sparrow to put her chair back in her car stating that she was littering. Mrs. Sparrow commented that she had that chair for when she became tired and politely asked to see the ordinance in question. The ordinance in question was #11.18.140 that deals specifically with a landlord who is evicting a tenant. Rita is not a landlord nor is she leaving her chair, she was going to sit in it. We at the Coalition for Life believe that this law is poorly written, unconstitutional, and should be quickly rectified by the city law makers.Shortly thereafter Rita was placed under arrest for littering and taken to the local police station. She was quickly released, however did not receive a citation leaving her with no ability to defend herself in court. However, President Barack Obama and Akin’s Democratic opponent Claire McCaskill have supported taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business — which has been repeatedly found to have failed to report suspected cases of sexual abuse and child rape to authorities.
