With attendance estimated to range between 200,000 to 500,000, the March for Life is the largest annual civil rights event in the world.
Seeking to reactivate its political arm, M4L wooed Family Research Council Vice President Tom McClusky, pictured left, earlier this month to head its (c)4 division. His vision? “I’m basically heading a 40-year-old brand new organization,” Tom told me, since the (c)4 has not been active for a number of years. “But I’m not looking to replace any other organization out there, because it would be impossible.” So Tom wants to create citizen lobbyists – getting young people to call their legislators. “Currently neither Senate nor House leadership whips on pro-life issues doesn’t whip on pro-life votes, but that is going to change,” Tom promised. Tom wants to keep marchers engaged.. As for the M4L itself, leaders are focusing on outreach to Evangelicals, “because we know the event is mostly Catholic, but most of America isn’t,” said Jeanne. To that end M4L has hired Bethany Goodman, a member of McLean Bible Church, and has also formed an Evangelical task force. (read full article) State Rep. Paul Wieland could be starting a trend in Missouri with his suit that challenges the Missouri government’s new group insurance coverage that covers sterilization and contraceptives, including some birth-control drugs or devices that he says induce abortion.
In the suit, Wieland and his lawyers contend that such coverage is not “health care or a means of providing for the well being of persons. Rather, plaintiffs believe contraceptives, sterilization, and abortifacients involve gravely immoral practices and that abortion in particular involves the intentional destruction of innocent human life.” The suit raises the same legal issues swirling around a state law that the Missouri General Assembly attempted to enact in 2012 – over Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto – that allowed employers to offer insurance coverage excluding contraception or sterilization. (The state already has a law allowing exemptions from abortion coverage.) So far, judges have ruled against the state law, using the same grounds – that the federal law is supreme. State House Speaker Tim Jones, R-Eureka, among the most outspoken defenders of the state law, says it’s wrong to require companies or employees to buy into coverage they find immoral. The question is whether more like-minded Missouri legislators who receive state insurance coverage follow Wieland's lead and go to court. In fact, Alliance Defending Freedom has previously reported the following:
· Claims by Planned Parenthood that it relied on Komen grants to provide breast cancer screenings, including mammograms, for low-income, Medicaid-eligible women, were false. Indeed, Planned Parenthood is not licensed to provide mammograms and has no mammography equipment in any of its clinics. Planned Parenthood appears to have billed the Title XIX-Medicaid program for services, including breast cancer screening, already rendered to the same low-income women covered by the Komen grants. But there is much more. Recently, Planned Parenthood paid $4.3 million to settle a lawsuit that accused Planned Parenthood of submitting “false claims . . . for medically unnecessary or unneeded items and services . . . [and for] items and services that were never provided by” Planned Parenthood. Washington, DC (LiveActionNews) — Duck Dynasty, A&E’s hit reality show made rating history when their fourth season premiere was the most watched non-fiction series telecast in cable history. The show focuses on the lives of the Robertsons who run a family operated business called Duck Commander which makes products for duck hunters. These bearded men have won a place in the hearts of American viewers with 11.8 million people showing their affection by tuning in for the premiere.
In a culture that promotes quick hookups, scandals and vulgarity, Duck Dynasty is a refreshing change. The Robertsons have good morals, family values and strong faith. Whether on screen or off camera the Robertsons aren’t afraid to talk about things that matter. The Robertsons made their fortune by creating great duck hunting products. They’re using their fame to stand for life, promote adoption awareness and boldly share the benefits of abstinence. Lila Rose and Live Action are calling out the media for doing what has become a shameful daily, and even hourly, occurrence—lying.
The #MarchOnMedia campaign demands the media tell the truth about abortion. I know a little about media bias. I’ve been on the receiving end of absurd distortions and omissions by mainstream media for years (see here, here, here, and here). As an adoptee and adoptive father, I created the TooManyAborted.com billboard and web campaigns (as an initiative of The Radiance Foundation) to illuminate the devastating impact of abortion in the black community. Birmingham, AL – Judge Joseph L. Boohaker issued a permanent injunctiontoday barring abortionist Bruce Norman from operating an abortion clinic at the location of the former New Woman All Women abortion facility in Birmingham, Alabama. Judge Hoohaker also enjoined clinic owner Diane Derzis from referring abortion patients to the Birmingham office. The injunction should close the illegal abortion business permanently.
The decision was the result of a law suit filed by the Alabama Department of Public Health alleging that Derzis and Norman were operating an illegal abortion clinic without proper licensing on the site of an abortion clinic that had been closed due to the hospitalization of 3 abortion patients in one day and the subsequent discovery of 76-pages of health code deficiencies that presented a danger to the public. Today’s ruling represents a victory for pro-life groups, including Life Legal Defense, which filed an amicus curiae brief on behalf of CEC for Life and Operation Rescue in support of the ADPH suit. The groups worked together to expose abortion abuses at the clinic and filed complaints that resulted in the original closure of New Woman All Women last year. The GAO will investigate the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the Guttmacher Institute, the Sex Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), the Population Council, and Advocates for Youth. The “comprehensive” report will list every service performed and every federal dollar allocated, four Congressmen announced on Monday afternoon. Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ “It's time for Americans and especially Congress to take a second look and defund Planned Parenthood,” said Congressman Chris Smith, R-NJ. “Hopefully this will help us finally put an end to U.S. taxpayer support, funding and complicity with this violence against children.” The government watchdog's decision comes more than five months after 72 Congressmen asked the GAO to investigate Planned Parenthood in a letter dated February 21. |
