There are many, many secrets PPFA and its allies desperately want kept hidden. After the grim fact that they believe in and promote abortion for any reason throughout the entire nine months of pregnancies, probably no truth is more threatening to them than the incredibly disproportionate number of black babies who are aborted.
As Riley, who is black, tells us, “In New York City, thousands more black babies are aborted each year than born alive.” Only the likes of a Gov. Cuomo or Planned Parenthood/NARAL could calmly brush aside what many black leaders over the years have denounced. Riley reminds readers of historical truths only a tiny fraction would know: When the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973, polling showed that blacks were less likely than whites to support abortion. Sixties-era civil rights activists like Fannie Lou Hamer and Whitney Young had denounced the procedure as a form of genocide. Jesse Jackson called abortion “murder” and once told a black newspaper in Chicago that “we used to look for death from the man in the blue coat and now it comes in a white coat.” In the intervening decades, those views shifted. Mr. Jackson abandoned the pro-life ship to run for president in 1984, and leaders of black civil-rights organizations today are joined at the hip with abortion-rights proponents such as Planned Parenthood. The magnitude of the death toll is nothing short of staggering. According to a city Health Department report released in May, between 2012 and 2016 black mothers terminated 136,426 pregnancies and gave birth to 118,127 babies. By contrast, births far surpassed abortions among whites, Asians and Hispanics. What about nationally? Riley writes Nationally, black women terminate pregnancies at far higher rates than other women as well. In 2014, 36% of all abortions were performed on black women, who are just 13% of the female population. The little discussed flip side of “reproductive freedom” is that abortion deaths far exceed those via cancer, violent crime, heart disease, AIDS and accidents. On July 9, Trump announced his selection of Kavanaugh, a District of Columbia circuit judge, to replace the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. National pro-life activists have been generally pleased but not entirely convinced of his credentials, while Democrats and left-wing voices have bitterly denounced him. Kavanaugh’s confirmation, which Senate GOP leaders have promised will take place this fall, is expected to be even more contentious than the president’s nomination of Justice Neil Gorsuch, who was replacing the late Antonin Scalia, another conservative. Kennedy, by contrast, was a pro-abortion, pro-gay judicial activist whose replacement threatens to shift the balance of the Supreme Court. Bumping the cap from $2.5 million to $3.5 million, H.B. 1288 will take effect July 1, 2019 and last for a cycle of six years. (read more) Congressional Hearing Will Question Facebook, Google, and Twitter Over Censoring Conservatives7/17/2018
The controversy over social media censorship of conservatives has not died down, and the House Judiciary Committee is holding a second hearing on the topic.
On July 13, 2018, the House Judiciary Committee announced that it would have another hearing to “examine social media filtering practices” on July 17. Representatives from Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are expected to testify as witnesses before the committee. The hearing will focus on “concerns regarding a lack of transparency and potential bias in the filtering practices of social media companies.” (read more) President Donald Trump Nominates Pro-Life-Friendly Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court7/10/2018
President Donald Trump has nominated pro-life friendly federal appeals court Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh has taken the pro-life side in important cases and has very strong pro-life Bona fides — prompting one leading pro-life attorney to say he would be an excellent addition to the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh sits on the DC Circuit Court. That is the main federal appeals court — often considered a stepping stone to the Supreme Court as it hears some of the most prominent cases, including ones filed against federal legislation like Obamacare. So it’s not a huge surprise President Trump selected a member from it. Kavanaugh worked as associate counsel to pro-life President George W. Bush and he came out of the era of Reagan judicial appointees. His rulings have been said to be more like Scalia than Kennedy, however. (read more) |
