After months of building, testing, and soliciting your feedback, I’m excited to announce that TODAY Students for Life’s new grassroots action website, www.abolishabortion.com, is officially launching.
Abolishabortion.com is SFL's first online hub for pro-life activists of all ages looking for ways to connect with other pro-lifers and organizations, learn more about the issues, and engage by participating in events, signing petitions, or comment on pro-life news. Now, the American Life League says that, with growing evidence strengthening the connection between the possible illegal destruction of records in the criminal case against Planned Parenthood in Kansas and Sebelius, the organization is Secretary Sebelius to resign from her cabinet level position in the Obama administration. “At a time when the implementation of major changes to our health systems is drawing near we need a HHS secretary the people can trust to uphold the law and with the time to devote fully to the operation of that area of the government,” said Jim Sedlak, ALL’s vice president. “It is becoming clear that Secretary Sebelius is going to be distracted by the likely criminal allegations against her and her administration in Kansas.” (read full article) Technology has been instrumental in moving public opinion on abortion. From the advent of ultrasound technology, which provides stunning glimpses into life in the womb, to iPad applications that allow a pregnant mother to track her baby’s development, the pro-life movement has benefited from greater awareness of the humanity of the unborn child. Now, the latest model of Apple’s iPhone provides women with alternatives to abortion when making related abortion searches on its new voice-directed Siri technology.
Siri serves as an electronic personal assistant that responds to voice commands for owners of the iPhone 4S. Abortion advocates were outragedto find when Siri was asked questions related to abortion, the phone responded with a list of pregnancy resource centers instead of local abortion facilities. Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri announced that the Jefferson City center, which had scaled back to opening just two days a week, will officially close November 30. Women who visited the center before will not be referred to the Columbia location, where surgical abortions are done. The abortion business says the closing of the clinic in Jefferson City was done to cut expenses at a time when Planned Parenthood is consolidating its locations nationwide. Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life, respond to the closing in comments to LifeNews. “This is wonderful news,” she said. “Jefferson City is a very pro-life community and while this Planned Parenthood did not provide surgical abortions, we know that their purpose is to give out abortifacient drugs and do referrals for abortions. We are very glad that Planned Parenthood is no longer a part of the Jefferson City community.” (read full article) The company conducting the first government-approved tests in people of a therapy developed using human embryonic stem cells abruptly announced Monday that it was halting the study, stunning advocates of the highly contentious field.
Geron Corp. of Menlo Park, Calif., said the move, which stops one of the most controversial and closely watched medical experiments in the history of biomedical research, was the result of a business decision to focus exclusively on developing cancer therapies. The high court will take the case Florida and more than two dozens other states filed against the health care reform law, saying that its individual mandate — requiring people to purchase health insurance that could fund abortions with taxpayer dollars or premiums — is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments in late March and issue a decision in the case by July, when the 2012 presidential election is in full swing.
