Trump’s new HHS secretary: ‘There is nothing more fundamental to our humanity than to defend life’11/30/2016
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 29, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – President-elect Donald Trump has chosen pro-life, pro-marriage, anti-Obamacare Rep. Tom Price, R-GA, to be his Secretary of Health and Human Services, Trump announced early Tuesday.
Price is an orthopedic surgeon and the Chairman of the House Budget Committee. He has said “there’s nothing more precious or more worth defending than the sanctity of life” in a video made to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. “Now, more than ever, the American people and the lives of countless Americans not yet born need folks who will stand up for life,” said Price. In this video, he defended the Hyde Amendment, which prevents taxpayer funding of Medicaid abortions. (read more) I have been a labor and delivery nurse since 1980. During my thirty-six year nursing career, I have also worked in medical units and for hospice. Being a nurse has allowed me to be present with people through their early beginnings of intrauterine life, and with others through their last breaths. It has been an amazing and rewarding journey. Life is precious and life is fleeting, and life should be respected. I am pro-life.
I am also a nursing instructor and have taught obstetrics to hundreds of young men and women, our future nurses. My students often ask me what my opinion is regarding abortion. “Are you pro-life or pro-choice?” they ask me. I do not ask them the same, as I don’t want them to fear that their position might affect how I grade them. When I answer that I am pro-life, the students often assume that my position is based on my religious beliefs, and so they respond that “you can’t force your religious beliefs on everyone else.” I explain that my argument against abortion is based on the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, and on logical reasoning. Wade, he explained that abortion policy “would go back to the states.”
Stahl then challenged him on the potential difficulty of getting an abortion in one’s home state without Roe effectively mandating that abortions be permitted for any reason prior to viability. (Doe v. Bolton, the companion ruling to Roe, effectively forced states to permit late-term abortions.) In response, Trump simply answered, “Yeah, well, they’ll perhaps have to go, they’ll have to go to another state.” “Well, we’ll see what happens,” Trump added. “It’s got a long way to go, just so you understand. That has a long, long way to go.” The sequence of events that would have to happen before states could directly ban abortion includes not only replacing the late Justice Antonin Scalia, which would leave the Supreme Court with a 5-4 majority in favor of Roe, but also replacing at least one additional pro-Roe justice. Then, a new lawsuit over a state abortion ban or one similarly focused on the issues in Roe would need to reach the court. ...Pro-Life Missourians turned out in record-breaking numbers on Tuesday, November 8th, to elect Donald Trump, President and Mike Pence, Vice-President. They are both committed to nominating conservative U.S. Supreme Court justices that uphold the constitution and they are committed to protecting innocent human life through federal legislation and policies. Pro-lifers also re-elected Roy Blunt for U.S. Senate and a statewide slate of pro-life candidates from Governor straight down the ticket. Pro-life voters rejected the extreme abortion agenda of Clinton, Kander and Koster. Thank you pro-life Missourians! Pro-life people have waged a battle against Roe vs. Wade, since January 1973, when it was legislated by the U.S. Supreme Court. Throughout these election results, Missourians have stated that it is time to change course and move our nation forward with the truth and protection of the baby in the womb. We are excited about working with our new President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President – elect Mike Pence and with the new slate of statewide office holders. With Greitens, Parson, Ashcroft and Hawley leading Missouri policies for our state, and continued pro-life support of the super majorities in the House and Senate, we look forward to passage of great pro-life legislation in the months and years to come. Pro-lifers have put in place a national and state team to protect babies and their mothers… (read full response) |
