“…I promised I wouldn't just do what was popular. I would do what was necessary.” -- President Obama, State of the Union 2010
Mr. President, what you've done has been neither popular nor necessary. Not a word was said, during last night’s State of the Unionaddress, about the administration's pro-abortion 'accomplishments.' But they are many. In January, just days after taking office, Mr. Obama rescinded a policy to keep US money out of international clinics that promote and offer abortions. Early nominations to the administration included the attorney who fought to starve and dehydrate Terri Schindler Schiavo. Researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine have succeeded in transforming mouse skin cells directly into functional nerve cells.
With the application of just three genes, the new cells make the change without first becoming a pluripotent type of stem cell -- such as an embryonic stem cell. That is a step long thought to be required for cells to acquire new identities. Read more WASHINGTON (Updated January 26, 2010, 9 AM EST) – The Obama White House and top Democratic congressional leaders, although shaken by the January 19 election of Republican Scott Brown to the Senate seat previously held by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), nevertheless are making plans to try to push broad health care legislation through Congress within a matter of weeks -- meaning that pro-life interests remain in grave jeopardy. On January 25, the Associated Press reported the emergence of a new plan that involves House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) seeking to muster enough support among House Democrats to win House passage of the health care bill (H.R. 3590) that was passed by the Senate on December 24. If this occurred, that bill would be sent straight to President Obama to be signed into law. Read more Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised today that Congress will eventually approve a pro-abortion health care bill. Although Democrats appeared to put the brakes on a bill for now, a final strategy on where to go from here is expected next week and pro-life groups remain concerned.
Pelosi insisted today that the House and Senate will pass a bill even though Americans remain very strongly opposed to it and the Senate no longer has a filibuster-proof majority. The little noticed provision could open a new door to direct taxpayer funding of abortions.

Read more WASHINGTON (December 19, 2009) – The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of right-to-life organizations in all 50 states, strongly opposes the abortion language contained in the "manager's amendment" (amendment no. 3276) that was filed today by U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nv.) to his pending health care bill (H.R. 3590). This statement may be attributed to NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson.
The Reid manager's amendment is light years removed from the Stupak-Pitts Amendment that was approved by the House of Representatives on November 7 by a bipartisan vote of 240-194. The new abortion language solves none of the fundamental abortion-related problems with the Senate bill, and it actually creates some new abortion-related problems. read more |
