The head of Planned Parenthood clashed with congressional Republicans on Capitol Hill Tuesday over the group's taxpayer funding, while using her appearance to attack the group behind a series of disturbing videos showing her organization's workers discussing fetal tissue harvesting.
Cecile Richards, speaking before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, claimed the videos were "deceptively edited" and "heavily doctored." Yet just minutes before the hearing started, a forensic analysis said the videos "are authentic and show no evidence of manipulation or editing." The analysis was conducted for the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress. Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, also seemed to brush off the claims of doctoring as he excoriated Planned Parenthood for its allegedly "insatiable" desire for taxpayer dollars. He pointedly cited the millions the group has spent on travel and parties and "fairly exorbitant salaries" even while cutting back, he said, on certain health care services. (click here for national updates) A Unique Approach to Ending Abortion. On Wednesday, September 23rd, our community will be one of many cities from coast to coast joining together for the 40 Days for Life campaign. 40 Days for Life is an intensive effort designed to raise awareness, save lives, bring healing, and lead our nation to repentance for the sin of abortion through three components: 40 days of prayer and fasting 40 days of peaceful vigil 40 days of community... (link to coalition for life St. Louis) The House of Representatives today passed a pro-life bill that would make it easier for states to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business after the abortion company was caught in a series of 10 videos selling aborted babies and their body parts.
Five states have revoked taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood’s abortion business, including Utah, Arkansas, Alabama, New Hampshire and Louisiana and Iowa’s governor has ordered a review of Planned Parenthood funding. However, those states have faced push back from the Obama administration and Planned Parenthood — both of whom are defending the taxpayer funding in court with claims that states don’t have the authority under Medicaid to revoke taxpayer funding. Today, in response, the House passed the H.R. 3495, Women’s Public Health and Safety Act. The bill, authored by pro-life Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) amends the Medicaid law to give states the freedom and discretion to exclude abortion providers from Medicaid. States who have sought to end their Medicaid contracts have been blocked from doing so by the Center for Medicaid and Medicaid Services and the bill would give states more latitude to de-fund. The Senate voted today to stop the Democrats’ filibuster of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks — as neither Congress nor state legislatures can vote to ban all abortions under Roe v. Wade. The bill highlights how unborn babies feel intense pain when they are killed in abortions. The vote comes at a time when 10 expose’ videos have exposed the Planned Parenthood abrogation business selling aborted babies and their body parts. “What I am asking every colleague is this: look in your hearts and help us stand up for the most innocent life,” said Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in advance of the vote. But Democrats defeated the cloture vote 54-42, with pro-life Senate Republicans not getting the 60 votes needed to end debate and proceed to a vote on the pro-life bill itself. Three Democrats joined with Republicans to support the pro-life bill, including Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Joe Donnelly of Indiana. Two pro-abortion republican, Susan Collins of Maine and Mark Kirk of Illinois — voted with Democrats to support late-term abortions. Even NARAL agreed not to oppose it. Abortion’s most zealous defenders knew better than to try to stick their necks out for starving newborns to death after women’s “choice” is no longer in play, or when protecting them wouldn’t imperil their precious Roe v. Wade in any way.
What a difference thirteen years makes. When the House voted last week on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires abortionists to get such babies to hospitals and criminalizes their deliberate murder, 177 Democrats voted against it. A paltry five took what was their party’s default position in 2002 and did the right thing. The President of the United States (no stranger to excusing this sort of thing) condemned the bill for its likely “chilling affect” on “access to care”—while refusing to describe its contents more specifically than “new legal requirements related to the provision of abortion services in certain circumstances,” a stark contrast to the paragraph’s worth of complaints about defunding Planned Parenthood in the same press release. The Blaze reported on the top 25 recipients who have fiscally benefitted from the coffers of America’s largest abortion chain. The head of the abortion class will be no surprise to most: Barack Obama has received more money from Planned Parenthood since donations have been tracked. Number #22 on the list is Senator Claire McCaskill who received $26,015. This latest video catches the nation’s biggest abortion business selling specific body parts — including the heart, eyes and “gonads” of unborn babies. The video also shows the shocking ways in which Planned Parenthood officials admit that they are breaking federal law by selling aborted baby body parts for profit. The 10th video by The Center for Medical Progress features several top-level Planned Parenthood executives discussing the organization’s secretive practices around aborted fetal parts harvesting. The video includes comments from Deborah VanDerhei, the National Director of the organization’s Consortium of Abortion Providers, describing the harvesting of fetal body parts as “donation for remuneration.” ...The sale or purchase of human fetal tissue is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S.C. 289g-2). Vanessa Cullins, the Vice President of External Medical Affairs, seems fully aware of the criminal exposure that fetal body parts sales present to Planned Parenthood: “This is important. This could destroy your organization and us, if we don’t time those conversations correctly,” she tells a prospective buyer. The news comes after reports that the House of Representatives is planning a vote on legislation in a couple weeks that would de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The two votes would follow one the Senate had weeks ago, which saw Senate Democrats filibuster and block legislation to revoke $550 million in taxpayer funding. While McConnell says the senate will hold another vote, he said it is unlikely that Congress will be able to de-fund Planned Parenthood because Senate Democrats will filibuster again and pro-abortion President Barack Obama will veto any bill that attempts to de-fund Planned Parenthood. This is the first hearing in Congress’ multi-committee investigation of the abortion business after a series of nine videos exposed how it is potentially illegally selling aborted babies and profiting from the sales.
On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold its first hearing in a series of hearings titled, “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider.” The hearings will examine the abortion practices of Planned Parenthood, which has been the subject of an ongoing House Judiciary Committee investigation into the organization’s practices. This latest video catches a Planned Parenthood medical director discussing how the abortion company sells fully intact aborted babies — including one who “just fell out” of the womb. CMP has also released the full, unedited video of the interview with Perrin Larton, the Procurement Manager at ABR, who is shown describing ABR’s fetal tissue harvesting practice to a prospective buyer. In the full video, Larton explains of situations where there has been a great enough degree of cervical dilation to procure an intact fetus. “I literally have had women come in and they’ll go to the OR and they’re back out in three minutes, and I’m going, ‘What’s going on?’” Larton says. “Oh yeah, the fetus was already in the [birthing] canal. Whenever we put her in the stirrups, it just fell out.” (read more) |
