Leading Democrats are aggressively attacking pro-life advocates and lawmakers who want a vote on the Blunt Amendment tomorrow to mitigate the problems associated with the new mandate pro-abortion President Barack Obama put in place.
Leading pro-life organizations are continuing to push the Blunt amendment in the Senate to respond to the mandate the Obama administration issued that forces religious groups to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions for employees. But, yesterday, pro-abortion Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, while agreeing to a vote on the amendment, attacks Republicans for wanting to protect religious liberty — essentially calling them Neanderthals for wanting it. The text of the Blunt Amendment consists of the language taken from the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (S. 1467, H.R. 1179). It would amend the Obama health care law (“ObamaCare”) to prevent the imposition of regulatory mandates that violate the religious or moral convictions of those who purchase or provide health insurance. Ingraham was enthusiastically promoting 40 Days for Life to millions of people on the Fox News Channel's "Fox and Friends" program yesterday morning. We NEVER imagined that kind of publicity and attention when 40 Days for Life first began! Today I have a very special video for you: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=2773 This spring's 40 Days for Life marks the TENTH nationally and internationally coordinated campaign since this effort went from humble beginnings to spread around the world. To mark this occasion -- national director David Bereit went back to where it all began. (link to blog for daily updates) Judge Daniel Green in the Cole County Circuit Court ruled Monday evening that the MOSIRA (Missouri Science Innovation and Reinvestment Act) bill (SB 7) is unconstitutional. Missouri Roundtable, Missouri Right to Life, Citizens of Missouri and Lawyers for Life filed suit against the MOSIRA legislation. “Our suit was based on the language in SB 7 that clearly states that MOSIRA does not go into effect without the passage on SB 8, known as the Aerotropolis bill. Since SB 8 did not pass during the extraordinary special session, MOSIRA should not and could not go into effect. In spite of this language, Governor Nixon signed SB 7 and has taken steps to implement it,” stated Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life.

Komen for the Cure, resigned after the breast-cancer group decided to overturn a decision to end grants to Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Handel, who ran unsuccessfully for governor in Georgia in 2010, today criticized Planned Parenthood for its “guerilla tactics,” saying “for an outside organization to come in like they did and conduct this shakedown is outrageous.” (link to article) (link to Handel's resignation letter) Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum won big victories in Tuesday night in GOP presidential contests in Minnesota and Missouri and leads the race for the victory in Colorado.
Santorum, with 99 percent of precincts reporting in Missouri, captured 55.2 percent of the vote to 25.3 percent for Mitt Romney, 12.2 percent for Ron Paul and 7.3 percent for other candidates — presumably Newt Gingrich since he was not on the ballot there. In Minnesota, Santorum won as well with the support of 44.7 percent of Republicans to 27.3 percent for Paul, 17 percent for Romney, and 10.5 percent for Gingrich. The Minnesota tally was the first time Romney has finished in third place in any of the states. But when that law eviscerates the very foundation of religious liberty in America as protected under the First Amendment, it should not be surprising that Catholics and Jews, evangelical Christians, and mainline Lutherans alike find common cause in defense of their liberties.
Such is the case with the firestorm of opposition to Obamacare and the Obama Administration’s attack on religious liberty. Under a new Obamacare mandate issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the White House is mandating that virtually all religious employers, with the exception of churches, provide health care coverage for contraception — including abortion-inducing drugs — thereby trampling upon their constitutionally guaranteed free exercise of religion. And it is this mandate that has caused a vehement response in churches and synagogues across the country. (read more) Is Susan G. Komen Foundation Reversing its decision to Defund Planned Parenthood? - Various Reports2/3/2012
After delighting pro-life advocates with a new policy that appeared to make it so Planned Parenthood would find its funding massively cut or eliminated, pro-life advocates are now unclear whether the breast cancer charity will fund the abortion business.
Komen released a new statement today making it appear Planned Parenthood might be eligible for funding down the road but also making it appear that, if Planned Parenthood is found to be criminally liable in various state and federal investigations, that its funding stream would be cut off. Matthew Clark, of the pro-life legal group ACLJ, hit upon the uncertainty. “It is unclear under Komen’s new funding policy whether Planned Parenthood will qualify for future funding,” he said. “There are reports that this change in criteria means that Komen will honor funding to all 19 Planned Parenthood clinics and will allow them to apply for future funding.” (read more) |
