WASHINGTON, D.C., July 26, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. Senate voted 55 to 45 today to reject the repealing of Obamacare and defunding of Planned Parenthood.
On Tuesday, Vice President Pence broke a tie in the Senate, which was divided 50-50 on whether to allow debate and voting to take place on the American Healthcare Act (AHCA), which repeals Obamacare. Specifically, the vote today was on an amendment to the AHCA that would swap the AHCA with a simple repeal of Obamacare. The AHCA outlines some provisions "replacing" Obamacare. In 2015, the Senate passed similar language ending Obamacare and defunding Planned Parenthood. Republican Senators John McCain, Shelley Moore Capito, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman, Lamar Alexander, and Dean Heller all voted "no" on the straight repeal of Obamacare and defund of Planned Parenthood. The failed amendment also included a ban of federal funding of abortion. All of those senators except for Collins voted "yes" on this bill back in 2015, when it was obvious President Obama would veto it. Today's vote doesn't mean that the Senate still won't end up repealing (and possibly replacing) Obamacare and defunding Planned Parenthood. The process of Senate debate over the AHCA – and introductions of various amendments to it – will carry on throughout the week. *Contact your U.S. Senators and ask for a full repeal of Obamacare. Today the Missouri Senate took up and passed HCS SB 5 which not only expands regulations on abortion in multiple statutes, but also improves the tracking of baby body parts from abortion to prevent the buying and selling of these precious babies for research. In addition, HCS SB 5 expands the powers of the Attorney General and protects our Pregnancy Resource Centers and faith communities in St. Louis and across the State of Missouri from being forced to participate in abortion. After the sweeping pro-life election victories in November 2016, those who support abortion on demand at any stage of development used a pro-abortion judge and a few pro-abortion St. Louis Aldermen to attempt to take away common sense regulations on abortion and attack our religious communities. Once enacted, HCS SB 5 will provide protections of religious liberty for individuals and religious communities as well as enact common sense regulations on abortion. HCS SB 5 also ensures needed accountability from the abortion industry. Multiple violations were found during the 2015 State Senate, State House and U.S. Congressional investigations of Planned Parenthood, and now with the passage of this legislation, these situations will be rectified. We are very grateful to the Missouri House and Senate leadership, sponsors and members for the passage of this critical pro-life bill. HCS SB 5 passed by a vote of 22-9. We are especially grateful to Governor Greitens for calling this special session and for his support of this strong pro-life legislation. We look forward to his signing the bill soon. Missouri Right to Life is the leading pro-life advocacy organization statewide, representing hundreds of thousands of pro-life Missourians. It has taken months to reach this climactic moment, but on Wednesday Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell finally announced an official vote on Obamacare for next week.
What remains unknown is whether the vote will be for a clean repeal of Obamacare or for the GOP-led Senate’s Better Care Reconciliation Act, which collapsed Monday evening after Utah Sen. Mike Lee and Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran announced they would oppose it. (read more) 80,000 rally for life in Ireland: ‘We can do better’ than ‘killing children before they are born’7/6/2017
Over 70,000 pro-lifers took to the streets of Dublin, Ireland, on July 1, 2017, to tell the government not to repeal the 8th amendment to the Irish Constitution. The 8th amendment gives an equal right to life to both pregnant women and their preborn children. Pro-life groups in attendance included the Life Institute, Youth Defence, and the Northern Ireland group Precious Life.
“This is an incredible, powerful day, when massive crowds of ordinary people turned out to Save the 8th, to say no to abortion and yes to Life,” Niamh Ui Bhriain of the Life Institute said. “We were expecting 50,000 but as the Rally moved through Dublin City, up to 80,000 people brought the city to a standstill as they joined in to Save the 8th. […] we can do better for mothers and babies than legalising something as barbaric and regressive as killing children before they are born.” (read more) WASHINGTON, D.C., July 5, 2017 –
Pro-life activists will protest outside the British embassy at 6:00 p.m. tonight in solidarity with Charlie Gard. The 11-month-old UK baby's parents are fighting to keep him on life support despite court orders that his hospital pull the plug when they want. The pro-life activists may head to London afterward to do whatever possible to keep Charlie alive and allow him to be transferred elsewhere. Pro-lifers protested on behalf of Charlie outside Buckingham Palace on Sunday. Chris Gard and Connie Yates, Charlie's parents, have been fighting in European courts for their right to bring him to the U.S. for experimental treatment for his rare muscle and brain disease. They raised over $1.6 million to do this, but English courts sided with the hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, which wants to remove him from life support. Then, the European Court of Human Rights also sided with Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Charlie currently is. Charlie was scheduled to die on Friday, June 30, but his parents have been granted more time with him. They've not been allowed to even bring him home to die there.
