Republican Gov. Eric Greitens, who called state lawmakers back to the Capitol for the second special session this summer, led an anti-abortion rally in support of proposed new measures such as mandatory annual health inspections of clinics. He also spoke strongly in favor of nullifying a St. Louis ordinance that bans discrimination based on “reproductive health decisions” such as abortion, saying it made the heavily Democratic city “an abortion sanctuary city.” “We’ve got to raise our voices together and tell them, ‘Not on our watch,’ ” he told a crowd of roughly 200, many of whom held signs that read “protect life.” ...Greitens said he called the special session in reaction to a St. Louis ordinance banning discrimination based on “reproductive health decisions” and a federal judge’s ruling that struck down some Missouri abortion restrictions passed by previous legislative sessions. The ruling, which the state is appealing, tossed out Missouri requirements that doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, and that clinics meet hospital-like standards for outpatient surgery. Greitens wants lawmakers to enact other restrictions on clinics in place of those that were struck down... ..Proposed bills approved by a Senate panel Tuesday would require annual abortion clinic inspections, new authority for the attorney general to prosecute violations of abortion law and a requirement that the state health department review fetal-tissue reports from abortions. Some Missouri Republican lawmakers have been trying to pass more stringent laws dealing with fetal tissue since the 2015 release of undercover videos by anti-abortion activists, who said the videos showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of tissue. June 14, 2017 (LifeIssues) -- A battle is brewing in the U.S. Senate over funding of Planned Parenthood.
This is the opportunity for pro-life Republican leadership to deliver on past promises to protect unborn babies and women. Will they? The Senate is considering whether or not to fund Planned Parenthood with your tax dollars in the reconciliation bill. This legislation requires only a majority vote because it’s not subject to a Senate filibuster, but a reconciliation bill limits the Senate’s actions to measures related to the budget. The legislation passed in the House of Representatives stops for one year Medicaid reimbursement to Planned Parenthood, which accounts for about 85 percent of their tax funding of $555-million dollars. If pro-life senators fail to act on our highest legislative priority, they will impose a self-inflicted wound on the prospects of their re-election and maintaining a majority in the House and Senate. Contact your senators. Regardless of where they stand on funding Planned Parenthood, they need to hear from you. We’ve made it easy for you to help defend the babies. In addition to touting birth control and a few limited health services, Planned Parenthood purportedly provides options for women who discover they are pregnant. The nation’s abortion corporation continues to insist that abortion constitutes only “three percent” of its services, but as a new Live Action investigation reveals, pregnant women who seek out Planned Parenthood for an option other than abortion are turned away. Despite the assertions of Planned Parenthood’s President, Cecile Richards, the abortion corporation is not the place for a pregnant woman to explore her options for her pregnancy. Abortion is the only actual option Planned Parenthood provided to women in Live Action’s undercover investigation.
