URGENT: Call Gov. Nixon Immediately and Ask Him to Sign SB 749!

6/28/2012

Right now, Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion forces are waging a vigorous campaign to convince Governor Nixon to veto SB 749. Don't let them succeed!
Now more than ever it is important for you contact our Governor and tell him to "take a stand for our religious liberties!"
SB 749
sends a strong message to Washington that the majority of Missourians are people with strongly held religious and moral convictions and we will not accept the attack against our religious liberty contained in the HHS mandate that will force religious institutions to pay for abortion, contraception and sterilization through their insurance plans. SB 749 also gives Missouri individuals, businesses and institutions standing in the courts to file suit if they oppose enforcement of this mandate and requires businesses to notify participants if any plan covers abortion.
The Governor has until July 14 to sign SB 749. Don't let the pro-abortion groups have more calls and letters to the Governor than pro-life Missourians!
Call Governor Nixon at (573) 751-3222 or visit http://governor.mo.gov/contact/ and ask him to "SIGN SB 749" into law.

Individual mandate upheld, religious freedom remains undecided

6/28/2012

From Manhattan declaration:  By now, you know that the Supreme Court today voted to uphold President Obama’s health care law in a 5-4 decision, with Chief Justice John Roberts providing the decisive swing vote. President Obama responded quickly, urging “it’s time for us to move forward.”
Though the ruling does indeed provide the final word on the constitutionality of certain provisions of the law, including the crucial “individual mandate,” we must remember what it does not say. Today’s decision says nothing about the contraception mandate, nor does it address the question of abortion funding. Lawsuits on these specific questions continue to make their way through the justice system.
Had the law been struck down these questions would be moot. But now, more than ever, advocates of life and the rights of religious conscience must pray for justice and support our partners in the legal battle. Here are three resources:
The Alliance Defense Fund has created a page of resources to better understand the implications of Obamacare. Visit www.alliancedefensefund.org/obamacare.

The Becket Fund is partnering with Catholic and evangelical institutions suing the administration, including Belmont Abbey College and Colorado Christian University. Becket has created HHS Information Central with cases, maps, a timeline, and other resources.

The Colson Center has developed a page with regular updates on the religious liberty questions still in play.

Missouri Right to Life Press Release-  U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Obama Health Care Law

6/28/2012

The following statement can be attributed to Pam Fichter, MRL-PAC President:
The message of the disappointing Supreme Court decision today is that elections matter.  We must work to replace this pro-abortion president and Senate with a pro-life president and pro-life leadership in the Senate.  Make your voice heard in November!
While the challenges to the law were not based on the life issue, this 5 to 4 decision is a devastating setback for all who believe in the sanctity of life and in the freedoms upon which this country was founded.
The Obama Health Care Law contains multiple provisions that provide authorizations for subsidies for abortion, both implicit and explicit, and also multiple provisions which may be used as bases for abortion-expanding administrative actions.  This is a sharp departure from decades of previous federal policy under the Hyde Amendment, the Federal Employees Health Benefits program, and other federal programs.
In addition, doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers will be told by Washington just what diagnostic tests and medical care are considered to meet “quality and efficiency” standards.
These standards are specifically designed to limit the funds that Americans may choose to spend on health care so that they cannot keep up with the rate of medical inflation.  Treatment that a doctor and patient deem needed or advisable to save the patient’s life or preserve or improve the patient’s health but which runs afoul of the imposed standards will be denied, even if the patient is willing and able to pay for it. In effect, there will be one uniform, national standard of care, established by Washington bureaucrats, that is designed to limit what private citizens are allowed to spend to save their own lives.
This decision makes it absolutely imperative that this law be repealed by the next congress and president.  Missouri Right to Life Political Action Committee will work diligently to make sure we have a strongly pro-life congress and president committed to repealing this life-destroying legislation.

Sharply divided Supreme Court postpones ObamaCare decision

6/23/2012

The U.S. Supreme Court has pushed back the hotly-anticipated ruling on the federal health care law, as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg disclosed that the Court was “sharply divided” over the question - but gave no hint as to the outcome.
Although media were preparing for a ruling on Thursday, the high court was silent on the health care lawsuit, leaving Monday as the next possible date for a decision.
The case is complicated by three major points of disagreement: whether the mandate forcing Americans to purchase health insurance is unconstitutional, whether the law could stand without the mandate, and whether its expansion of Medicaid is within the boundaries of federal power. A fourth possibility, that the case would be deemed immature, is thought to be more remote.

Pro-life school bus firebombed in Rockford, local media ignore the incident

6/23/2012

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, June 18, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com)—A school bus covered in pro-life images that used to drive children to a local abortion clinic to pray was firebombed Friday night, report local advocates, who say the media have been negligent in covering the incident.
The bus, owned by Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy, suffered extensive damage after vandals threw more than one device through the vehicle’s windows. Photos show some of the seats reduced to little more than metal frame and ash. The driver’s area was also bombed, and appears to be unusable.
The bus is well known in the area for the images on its windows, which include several Catholic images, as well as pictures of unborn children.
Local leader Kevin Rilott told LifeSiteNews.com via telephone Monday that the pro-life community was “pretty upset” about the destruction. Rilott used to regularly protest at the notoriously anti-Christian Northern Illinois Women’s Center (NIWC) abortion mill in Rockford, famous for the mocking and blasphemous messages in its windows, which closed permanently this year following an investigation by health officials.
In a video of the incident posted on the local pro-life blog, Rilott complained that the Rockford Register Star at first declined to do a story - but chose to run a piece this weekend highlighting an attack on the now-closed abortion mill that occurred 12 years ago. It also ran a story about another vehicle that was firebombed at about the same time as the bus.
Rilott said his group “tried all weekend” to get a story from the Star. “We did hear finally today they started to make some inquiries,” he said, although he expressed concern that it would be given little prominence. The Star has previously declined to report NIWC’s history of harassing pro-life witnesses.

Pro-Abortion Movement Finds Ultrasound Images Threatening

6/23/2012

The pro-abortion movement finds itself once again between a rock and a hard place as technology advancements shed greater light on the humanity of the unborn child.
From the advent of 4-D ultrasounds to Facebook allowing parents to list their unborn child as a family member on their profiles, technology has only aided the pro-life cause. The latest trend to give voice to the voiceless child in the womb is the Photoshopping of sonogram images onto a picture of the mother’s belly.
According to The Daily, “Shelly Kuhn, a family portrait photographer from Tonawanda, N.Y., has Photoshopped clients’ sonogram images onto their maternity shoots several times, and sees it as an artistic portrayal of pregnancy.

Tim's Place restaurant takes unique approach thanks to special owner

6/16/2012

(CBS News) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sunday is Father's Day, which celebrates the special bond between a father and his son. We went "On the Road" to meet a father who couldn't be prouder, and a son who couldn't be more thankful.
When Keith Harris' son Tim was born, a half-hearted smile was all he could muster.
"Our pediatrician asked me if I knew what Down Syndrome was, and the world turned black at that moment," he told CBS News.
What a difference 26 years makes. Today, in sunny Albuquerque, you'd be hard pressed to find a more glowing father than Keith. Or a more shining example of what truly great parenting can accomplish.

Graphic Photo of Forced Late-Term Abortion Posted Online Forces China to Respond

6/16/2012

Several days ago, a horrific picture of an unconscious Chinese woman and her forcibly aborted unborn seven-month child lying next to her in a hospital bed began circulating on the internet.
Yesterday Chinese officials confirmed that the photo and story are “basically true” – a shocking admission from one of the most secretive pro-abortion regimes in the world.

A report from the China-based human rights organization 64Tianwang indicates the woman, Feng Jianmei, was beaten and dragged into a vehicle by a group of family planning officials while her husband, Deng Jiyuan, was out working.
The officials asked for RMB 40,000 in fines from Feng Jianmei’s family and, when they did not receive the money, they forcibly aborted Feng at seven months, laying the body of her aborted baby next to her in the bed.

On the Frontlines: Sidewalk Counseling 101

6/16/2012

These are eight tips for reaching out to abortion-minded women in a time of crisis.
I have been sidewalk counseling for almost three years. I have seen women broken by abortion before and after the procedure, and I have been privileged to be used as an instrument of God’s grace to save lives.
This information alone may not be enough to prepare you to sidewalk counsel. I strongly recommend that those who feel called to sidewalk counseling seek out a local pregnancy resource center for one-on-one training

150 Cities Will See Protests Against Obama HHS Mandate

6/6/2012

More than 150 cities will see pro-life advocates and others opposed to the new Obama HHS mandate take to the streets to make it know they don’t appreciate the violation of religious liberty the mandate makes by requiring religious groups to pay for birth control and abortion-causing drugs for their employees.
The Stand Up Rally will be held at federal buildings this Friday, June 8 at noon local time across the country, at federal buildings, Congressional offices and historic sites.

The June 8 Rally will take place on the 223rd anniversary of the day James Madison introduced the Bill of Rights to the 1st Congress, including what would become the First Amendment.“The First Amendment’s historic safeguard of our most basic freedoms is now under attack by the Obama administration’s HHS Mandate,” said Stand Up Rally national co-director Eric Scheidler. “On June 8, 2012, we will stand up for the First Amendment and demand that all our health care laws respect religious freedom.”
